JOB POSTING: CHILDREN & YOUTH MINISTRY LEADER

Reporting To: Lead Minister (Permanent Part-Time, 17.5 hours per week)

JOB SUMMARY

The Children and Youth Ministry Leader is a part of the ministry team at WVUC, reporting to the Lead Minister. This person desires to see children, youth and their families flourish and discover how to live a life of faith in a secular world. They are someone who will let each young person in their care grow into their own person on their faith journey, offering advice and wisdom when asked, and gentle guidance when needed. This position requires grace and respect for the many walks of life that those in their care might be coming from.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with Lead Minister to determine programming

  • Coordinating volunteers to support children & youth programs

  • Taking the lead on nurturing vibrant community amongst families of children and youth

  • Supporting the multigenerational vision of the church

  • Participating in planning team that oversees ministry to young people and their families

  • Maintaining contact database for families and teens

  • Maintaining relevant social media presence for teens

  • Specific responsibilities by age band:

  • Nursery - 0 to 4 years - Being contact person for nursery care provider

  • Sunday Club - Grades K to 3 - Fostering a collaborative relationship with the leader of this group

  • Sunday Club - Grades 4 to 7, (Grade 8+ in service together or in leadership):

    • Planning and leading Sunday morning program for grades 4 to 7

    • Organizing and leading summer Kids Camp

  • Youth group - Grades 8 to 12:

  • Leading Thursday evening program and seasonal events

  • Maintaining relationships with teens (and parents when possible)

  • Organizing and leading relevant events such youth retreats, outreach projects and trips, etc

  • Working with Lead Minister in supporting confirmation classes

  • Develop leadership amongst teens (Sunday Club opportunities, Summer Kids Camp, nursery, and multigenerational opportunities)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Awareness and compassion for the pressures that young people are facing.

  • Ability to relate to a broad range of ages while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

  • Ability to create a safe space where young people can develop a sense of belonging and friendship with each other.

  • Ability to work well in a team and with volunteers.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Creative understanding of using social media for connecting with youth.

  • Technological proficiency is essential.


The Child & Youth Ministry Leader is a permanent part-time position of 17.5 hours per week.
Must be available for weekly evening youth group gatherings and Sunday mornings. May also attend bi-monthly staff meetings and additional special events as appropriate. Outside of this, the hours are flexible.
